How do you inspire the scientific community to use DeepMind's AI system AlphaFold?

AlphaFold predicts proteins’ all-important 3D structures, and is catalysing progress in research across scientific fields from vaccine creation to plastic waste reduction. Our content campaign lets those using it tell their stories in language that all scientists could relate to.

The video and written content has been viewed over 100k times.

Objectives

Flying Object were tasked with increasing awareness of AlphaFold's impact among a scientist audience, and creating context for a huge product launch in the AlphaFold Database.

Strategy

Show AlphaFold's role in the wider context of scientific research, and tell relatable stories of scientists making breakthroughs with it - not only what they did, but how it felt, and what it enabled them to do next.

Idea

AlphaFold: Unfolded

A content campaign with video and both short and long read articles, reaching scientists on their level. Each heroed the individual scientists and communities working with AlphaFold, and told compelling stories of breakthroughs large and small.

What we did

We inspired audiences through the stories of real scientists, exploring the amazing and diverse ways in which AlphaFold is being used:

  • Researched and produced 4 mini-documentaries for a broad science audience
  • Researched and wrote 7 written case studies for more expert audience
  • Created a suite of social assets, to distribute the content on YouTube, LinkedIn, Twitter and Instagram
