How do you engage very online young people with a real world arts festival?
Tour de Moon was a festival igniting radical imagination among 18-25 year olds. We designed and ran its digital side.
Our goal was to go to the audience, not expect them to come to us. We ran artistic commissioning that treated memes & internet culture as seriously as music or performance; partnered with youth media to create video games; and captured physical events in a contemporary visual style.
Flying Object were tasked with building a digital backbone for the Tour de Moon festival, and then extending its reach through social platforms.
Reach people where they are. Lean into the formats and platforms that young people use already, work directly with young people themselves, and wrap the project in a design aesthetic dripping in contemporary visual culture.
An online commissioning programme for twenty eight 18-25 year old artists to create original internet content across TikTok and Instagram.
Partner with The White Pube to create video games from young developers based on the festival’s philosophy (play the games).
Video capture of events, shot and edited by 18-25 year old crews.
Build a website and ticketing system whose design reflects the existing behaviour of the age group and looks unlike traditional government funded culture.
